The Board of Directors is the backbone of Ring 76, responsible for the organization's vision, growth, and day-to-day operations. Comprised of dedicated volunteers who are passionate about magic, our board members work tirelessly to ensure the club continues to thrive.

Each officer brings unique talents and perspectives to create a vibrant, welcoming environment for magic enthusiasts of all levels. Through their combined efforts, they maintain our club's traditions while introducing innovative programs that keep the magic alive in San Diego.

Meet Our Current Officers

President

Mike Stilwell (Magic Mike Stilwell)

Mike has over 30 years of entertainment and event planning in San Diego County. He has had the longest-running magic show in San Diego history at the Corvette Diner from 1987-2002. He was "Magician of the Year" in 2005 by the Fellowship of Honorable Magicians, with recognition from Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. He has been a member of the SAM, a member of the IBM, and a member of the Magic Castle in Hollywood.

Paul Dwork (Professor Paul)

Professor Paul has been a practicing Magician for over 40 years. He performs for Birthdays, Weddings, Company Partys, Trade Shows, and many Fundraisers. Previously known as Merlin, Professor Paul always presents a new flavor with his magic.

James Thayer

James enjoys performing close-up magic. James has retired from a career as a software/systems engineer and has regressed 200 years to become captain of a topsail schooner.

Kim Long (Max with an 'x')

Max with an 'x' enjoys adding a lil' bit of magic to others' lives. For 30 years he has honed his skills as a live-performance magical entertainer. It's apropos that Max is our treasurer because many of his favorite magical effects use money: paper currency and coins.

Mark Booth

Mark has had a passion for Magic since 1963. He loves all types of Magic, but particularly likes close-up and parlor effects. As a hobbyist, he mostly performs for friends and family, and is interested in the History of Magic.

Gary Salisbury

Gary is the Ring 76 Librarian. He is/has been a member of the IBM, the SAM, and the Magic Castle. He started performing kid|6s shows and close-up but eventually turned to collecting and magic history. He loves magic prop building, restoration and repair, going to magic conventions, and meeting new people. He has used his acquired business skills to build the Ring 76 library into one of the largest in the IBM organization.

Board Responsibilities

Club Management

The board oversees all aspects of club operations, including meeting planning, financial management, and strategic direction. They ensure that Ring 76 remains financially sound and true to its mission of promoting the magical arts.

Event Planning

From monthly meetings to special workshops and public performances, the board coordinates all club events. They arrange for guest lecturers, organize competitions, and create opportunities for members to perform and grow as magicians.

Member Support

The board fosters a supportive community for magicians of all skill levels. They ensure new members feel welcome, facilitate mentorships, and create an environment where knowledge and skills are freely shared.

Community Outreach

Representing Ring 76 in the broader community, the board builds relationships with other magical organizations, coordinates public performances, and promotes the art of magic throughout San Diego County.

Contribute

Any member is invited to attend board meetings and provide input and feedback, which we value greatly. However, only board members can vote on issues. We invite you to join and make your voice heard!

Annual Elections

Democratic Process

Each year, Ring 76 holds elections where all members in good standing can vote for the new board of directors. Elections typically take place in June with the new board taking office in July.

Nomination Period

Members may nominate themselves or others for board positions. Nominations begin in April, giving candidates time to share their vision for the club's future. To serve as President, a member must have served at least one prior term as a member of the Board

Term Limits

Board members serve one-year terms with the opportunity for re-election. The President may not serve more than two terms consecutively, but may be re-elected to the office of President after an interval of one or more terms. This balance of continuity and fresh perspectives helps the club remain dynamic and responsive to members' needs.
